American musician and composer Michael Nesmith, a member of rock band The Monkees who competed with the Beatles in the 1960s, died on Friday at the age of 78, his entourage announced.
“It is with great sadness that I learn of the death of Michael Nesmith. For thirty years we have shared many trips and projects together, which culminated in the Monkees farewell tour which was completed just a few weeks ago, ”Monkees manager Andrew Sandoval wrote on Twitter. The artist died of natural causes at his home in California, according to local media citing his family.
When the Monkees overtook the Beatles
