Sir Michael is not amused, he doesn’t like what he read about “Zulu”, the film about a small British colonial force. Caine plays one of the young blond officers who resisted overwhelming numbers of Zulu warriors at the Battle of Rorke’s Drift. Now the film has appeared on a list of works by the pro-government British Preventprogram that seeks to discourage people from becoming involved in terrorist activities – this is what the nationalist and racist undertones in “Zulu” could produce. Also listed are films like “The Dam Busters” or “The Great Escape” and of course the works of Shakespeare. “Zulu” made Michael Caine famous in one fell swoop, in 1964, in the same year he was seen in a TV production of “Hamlet” as Horatio. Sir Michael thinks that Prevent-Action is a load of bullshit.
