Météo France places the Bouches-du-Rhône on red rain-flood vigilance

After the rains for the North and the Paris region, thunderstorms in the South. Météo France on Monday placed the Bouches-du-Rhône department on red rain-flood vigilance due to an active rain-storm episode which carries a risk of “violent phenomena”. 30 to 40 mm of rain are expected in one hour in the east of the department, with accumulations sometimes reaching 150 mm before a lull.

Five other departments have been placed in orange vigilance: the Alpes de Haute-Provence, the Alpes-Maritimes, the Var, the Vaucluse and Southern Corsica. At the beginning of the afternoon, new very active storm cells are expected in the west of the PACA region and will then circulate in all the departments in orange vigilance. In the Bouches-du-Rhône, these new bad weather is occurring in the areas which have been affected since last night.

Thunderstorms, very active, will be accompanied by violent phenomena: rainfall intensities of around 40 to 60 mm in a short time, strong gusts of wind and hail. To see the sky clear, we will have to wait until the end of the day.
