Météo-France places ten departments on orange vigilance for this Tuesday

Ten departments have been placed on orange rain-flood and flood alert by Météo-France for this Tuesday. In the center-west, this vigilance concerns Corrèze, Lot, Dordogne, Charente-Maritime, Charente, Gironde and Deux-Sèvres. In the Northern Alps, Haute-Savoie and Savoie are affected by this double orange vigilance. Isère, for its part, is placed on raw orange vigilance.

In the next 24 hours, the departments affected by the orange rain-flood vigilance could experience an accumulation of rain usually observed over an entire month, states the Météo-France bulletin.

Snow expected in the Alpine massifs

This meteorological episode occurs in an overall rainy context for several weeks. Consequently, “the soils are already saturated with water”recalls Météo-France, with risks of a “reaction of watercourses” and of “mudslides, even landslides locally”.

Snow is expected in the Alpine massifs for the day. While the rain-snow limit will drop in the afternoon, going from 2200 to 2300 meters above sea level to 1100 meters to 1500 meters, two to four centimeters are expected on average in the massifs: “Locally, we could reach 50 to 60 mm on the Mont Blanc massif”specifies Météo-France.
