Blake Lively’s dress changed color: a homage to Versace’s New York

The Versace dress worn by Blake Lively to the 2022 Met Gala is reminiscent of the Statue of Liberty in New York

The Met Gala is an eye-catcher every year for beautiful fashion designs and breathtaking designs. An absolute highlight this time was Blake Lively, whose dress simply changed color.

As she walked the red carpet at the 2022 Met Gala on Monday night, those present were amazed to see Blake Lively’s dress suddenly change color. Her husband Ryan Reynolds apparently didn’t expect the change either.

Fashion can express many things, in the case of Blake Lively’s dress it can even embody an entire city. The dress was designed by the fashion house Versace and is intended to pay homage to the city of New York. First, Blake Lively appeared in a copper-colored dress, which a little later changed color and became turquoise. Just like the patina on copper-colored elements on buildings, often in New York. This is also where the star-studded fundraiser gala will take place for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s “Costume Institute” in New York City.

The dress code for the evening was inspired by the Gilded Age this year. A 30-year period at the end of the 19th century, in which the wealth of industrial families in the USA skyrocketed and the New York upper class was characterized by exaggerated fashion.

When Lively arrived, the glittering, beaded Versace gown was draped in an oversized copper-colored satin bow. But as she climbed the stairs to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s entrance, the bow was undone to reveal the rest of the expansive ensemble: a long skirt in an aged copper hue, meant to pay homage to the Statue of Liberty’s patina.

Lots of details on Lively’s dress are reminiscent of NYC

“I patinated,” Blake Lively joked during Vogue magazine’s live stream. She continues to share the inspiration behind the dress: “This dress pays homage to New York City and so many of its classic, iconic buildings. The creation has details from the Empire State Building, with some of the draping reminiscent of the Statue of Liberty and the constellation of the Grand central station.”

There were also a few tiaras to admire at this year’s Met Gala. So did Blake Lively, who wore an elegant band with seven spikes on her head, another reference to the “Lady Liberty”.
