“Mercy” by John Cale: “Ding dong, the witch is dead, dead, dead” – culture

Much is doomed on this album. The grandeur of what used to be Europe, for example, is sinking into the mud. The Church, in its cruelty, has long since followed suit. Or as John Cale says: “The grandeur that was Europe / Is sinking in the mud / The savagery that was the Church of God / Has already joined the club.” And in the US, the people who are “wolves” here are buying more and more guns and rolling in snow and mud, apparently a kind of motive. Meanwhile: “Lights exploding above / Colder, colder, colder, cold”. Translation offer: Only when the last sun has exploded over you will you realize that money cannot warm you.
