Mentally ill man attacks and injures couple – Bavaria

In Upper Bavaria, a suspected mentally ill man attacked a couple at home on Wednesday, injuring both of them. According to the police, the 53-year-old woman was seriously injured, but was able to save herself from the building. Her 67-year-old partner suffered minor injuries from the attacker’s physical violence and was also able to escape. The 53-year-old perpetrator was later overwhelmed by a special unit from the Munich police headquarters in the family home.

The man had attacked the couple in their home in Halfing (Rosenheim district) around 11:30 a.m., presumably without reason. After the injured couple escaped, police cordoned off the building. About 80 officers and two helicopters were deployed. Fears that the 53-year-old could have holed up in the house with a hostage were not confirmed. The perpetrator was alone in the building. The special unit requested in Munich ended the operation after three hours and arrested the attacker in the basement of the house. “According to initial findings, the man was in an exceptional psychological situation,” the police reported. He was taken to a specialist clinic. The public prosecutor’s office is now examining whether to request a placement order from the investigating judge, in which case the 53-year-old would have to stay in the clinic for the time being. The Kripo determined because of an attempted homicide against the man.
