Truck drives backwards on the highway – driver dies
A risky truck maneuver on the A20 led to a fatal accident (symbol image)

On Thursday evening there was a serious accident on the A20 in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. A truck missed the exit and reversed on the freeway. A following motorist was killed.
A driver died in a risky maneuver by a truck driver on Autobahn 20 in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. As a police spokesman said on Friday, the 54-year-old driver of a semitrailer had missed a departure at Kreuz Wismar after initial investigations on Thursday evening and had therefore driven backwards. The 54-year-old is now being investigated on suspicion of negligent homicide.
Motorist from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania dies
Instead of driving on, turning off at the next exit and then driving back, the driver reversed the truck a bit. In the dark, a following driver was no longer able to brake in time or swerve and crashed his car into the truck. The car went under the trailer and was pinned.
The 66-year-old driver from the Rostock district died at the scene of the accident. The truck driver was not injured. The Autobahn 20 was blocked for more than five hours in the direction of Rostock because of the accident.
