A major rescue operation is causing a stir in the holiday resort of Heringsdorf on Usedom. One person dies, several are injured. Many questions are still open.
After a fatal emergency in a hotel There are still many questions unanswered in Usedom. Rescue workers found an increased concentration of carbon monoxide in the building on Tuesday morning, a district spokesman said.
According to police, hotel employees found two unconscious people in a hotel room. The doctor could only determine that a 56-year-old was dead. A 52-year-old was unresponsive and was flown to a special clinic. Her condition remains critical. According to the police, both come from Bavaria.
In addition, six people reported nausea and dizziness and were taken to hospitals. The investigation into the cause is ongoing. The police said they also wanted to call in an expert. The radio station Ostseewelle first reported.
The hotel had been evacuated and guests were accommodated in another hotel. According to the district, 65 people were in the house at the time of the emergency. According to the mayor of Heringsdorf, the building was accessible again in the afternoon. Guests can collect their belongings to leave, said Laura Isabelle Marisken on site on Tuesday. She spoke of a tragedy. “We are all deeply affected here. This is a very uneasy atmosphere.”
According to her, a shuttle had been ordered to the hotel for the departure of the two guests. When they didn’t show up, they went to her room and found her there and called the emergency services. A carbon monoxide detector on the helpers’ clothing went off at the scene. Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless and tasteless gas that, in higher concentrations, acts as a strong respiratory poison. According to their own information, the police were informed by the rescue control center at 10:35 a.m.
A guest from Magdeburg said he heard about the incident while having breakfast. He and his girlfriend were asked to leave the house. They were well looked after. They were rebooked into another hotel and stayed until Thursday. The 28-year-old said he was happy that he and his girlfriend escaped without any injuries.
