The night of May 1 passed peacefully in Hamburg. A total of 24 demonstrations have been registered for the weekend in Hamburg. At the beginning there was a rally in the Schanzenviertel on Saturday.
Some pyrotechnics will be ignited in front of the stage in the evening.
According to the police, around 550 demonstrators gathered in front of the Sternschanze S-Bahn station by the evening under the motto “Class festival – against state and capital”. Two participants ignited so-called smoke pots, the police arrested the two for the time being. In the evening some pyrotechnics were burned off in front of the stage, otherwise the situation was peaceful. The organizer, known from left-wing autonomous circles, had registered 500 participants.
In the past, left-wing demonstrators had repeatedly engaged in violent clashes with the police in the Schanzenviertel around May 1st. After the serious riots surrounding the G20 summit in 2017, however, things had been rather quiet in recent years.
Two larger rallies on Sunday
On Sunday, the police have two larger demos in view. The first protest march starts at 4 p.m. and leads through large parts of Wandsbek. The second demo route runs in Wilhelmsburg from Inselpark to Harburger Chaussee, starting at 6 p.m.
