Mathilde Panot summoned by the police as part of an investigation for “apology of terrorism”

According to the rebellious MP, this summons is linked to a communication from the rebellious group on the day of the Hamas attacks against Israel in which LFI pointed to “a context of intensification of the Israeli occupation policy” in the Palestinian territories.

The rebellious MP Mathilde Panot was summoned on Thursday May 2 by the Paris judicial police as part of an investigation for “apology of terrorism”. In a press release this Tuesday, April 23, the leader of LFI in the National Assembly denounces a “serious exploitation of justice aimed at gagging political expressions”.

“The Macronist regime will have transgressed all imaginable limits,” she writes.

A press release from October 7 in question

According to Mathilde Panot’s press release, this summons by the Paris judicial police is linked to “an official communication from the group dating from October 7”, the date of the Hamas attacks against Israel.

That day, the LFI group published a text which had sparked controversy because it mentioned an “armed offensive by Palestinian forces led by Hamas” and pointed to “a context of intensification of the Israeli occupation policy in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem”.

“Attempts to silence voices in favor of peace”

“This summons comes following a long list of other attempts to silence voices in favor of peace,” laments Mathilde Panot, who cites in particular the recent cancellations of conferences on Palestine by Jean-Luc Mélenchon or even the summons, also for “apology of terrorism”, of Rima Hassan, rebellious candidate for the European elections.

“No summons, no intimidation of any nature whatsoever will prevent us from protesting against the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people,” said Mathilde Panot on Tuesday.

The member for Val-de-Marne believes that this is “the first time in the entire history of the Fifth Republic that a President of an opposition group in the National Assembly has been summoned on the basis of false accusations and for such a serious reason.
