The director of Sciences Po, Mathias Vicherat, recently interviewed by the police in a case of domestic violence, ” propose “ Monday December 11 “temporary withdrawal” to the president of the National Political Science Foundation (FNSP), Laurence Bertrand Dorléac, in a message addressed to the entire school and sent to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
“I proposed to (…) Laurence Bertrand Dorléac to temporarily withdraw from my duties according to terms, a timetable and a duration which it is up to her to define and which she will present in the various authorities this week”it is written.
Mr. Vicherat and his partner, who accuse each other of domestic violence, were placed in police custody on December 3 and 4. “The medical-judicial unit did not find total incapacity for work on either of them, and neither of them wished to file a complaint at this stage. The investigation continues preliminary »the Paris prosecutor’s office said on December 4.
General meeting and occupation of premises
The next day, Mr. Vicherat wrote to students, teachers, employees, members of the institution’s councils, to ensure that he ” hears[ait] » their “emotion” and promise them to “meet very soon”. In this message also addressed to former students, Mr. Vicherat, in office since 2021, also wanted to “repeat [son] sincere and deep attachment to the values of [leur] establishment »we learned from the management of Sciences Po.
After a general meeting bringing together 250 people on December 6 at Sciences Po Paris, an occupation of the historic headquarters of the school was voted to obtain the resignation of the forty-year-old.
Mr. Vicherat succeeded Frédéric Mion in November 2021, who was forced to resign in February of the same year for having concealed suspicions of incest targeting political scientist Olivier Duhamel. The latter was then president of the FNSP, which finances the institution.
Opposed to Christine Musselin, research director at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), and Olivier Faron, general administrator of the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (CNAM), Mr. Vicherat was largely elected by the governance councils of the Institute of Political Studies and the FNSP to take the helm of Sciences Po Paris.
