The Europa League winner Eintracht Frankfurt can no longer win. After the 1-1 draw against FC Augsburg, the negative series has been extended to nine Bundesliga games without a win.

Eintracht Frankfurt has extended the negative series with the 1-1 (1-0) against FC Augsburg to nine Bundesliga games without a win.

The chance of entering a European Cup competition again has thus been further minimized. After the Hessen lead through an own goal by Elvis Rexhbecaj (25th minute), Ermedin Demirovic (58th) was able to equalize in front of 50,000 spectators with a goal worth seeing. For Eintracht it was another setback before the semi-finals in the DFB Cup on Wednesday (8.45 p.m.) at VfB Stuttgart.

The long dry spell since mid-February, when they last beat Werder Bremen (2-0) has left its mark and uncertainty on the people of Frankfurt. The play structure of the Europa League winner was again tedious and tough – and combinations worth seeing were scarce. Eintracht also had to cope with the absence of midfield endurance runner Djibril Sow, who was unable to play shortly before kick-off due to illness.

The Hessians were lucky in the 25th minute when Elvis Rexhbecaj deflected a shot that Buta had intended more as a cross past the helpless goalkeeper Tomás Koubek. Ten minutes later, Ansgar Knauff almost scored the second goal. After tricking Augsburg’s Mads Petersen, he shot the ball just wide of the left post.

The long-harmless guests fighting relegation, who only scored two points from the previous ten away games, had almost nothing to offer on the offensive. However, they suddenly had another big chance just before the half-time whistle: With a strong pass, Ermedin Demirovic served his strike partner Dion Beljo, who hesitated too long and whose shot from the edge of the penalty area was blocked by Eintracht defender Tuta at the last second.

FCA more powerful in round two

After the change of sides, the previously harmless guests made more steam. In the 48th minute, Demirovic challenged national goalkeeper Kevin Trapp with a turning shot, who was able to deflect to the corner with his fingertips. Ten minutes later, Trapp was powerless against the 25-year-old attacker, who volleyed the ball into the Frankfurt goal on a Ruben Vargas cross. A hit mark “Goal of the Month”.

In the final phase, the Frankfurt offensive player Jesper Lindström, who suffered an ankle injury in training at the beginning of March and has since been out, celebrated a mini comeback. But the Dane was no longer able to turn the tide.
