Tennis world number one Daniil Medvedev has reached the semifinals of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Mason, Ohio near Cincinnati.

Tennis world number one Daniil Medvedev has reached the semifinals of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Mason, Ohio near Cincinnati.

The top-seeded Russian defeated American Taylor Fritz 7-5, 6-3 in the quarter-finals. In the semifinals, the 26-year-old Medvedev will now meet the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, who won against John Isner from the USA 7: 6 (7: 5), 5: 7, 6: 3.

The unseeded Croatian Borna Coric and Britain’s Cameron Norrie contest the second semi-final. Coric, currently number 152 in the world, beat Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime (6: 4, 6: 4), the third top 20 opponent in a row, previously he had the Spanish record Grand Slam champion, among others Rafael Nadal defeated. Norrie eliminated the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz 7: 6 (7: 4), 6: 7 (4: 7), 6: 4.

The German doubles specialist Tim Pütz also reached the semifinals with his New Zealand partner Michael Venus. They defeated number two seeded defending champions Marcel Granollers (Spain) and Horacio Zeballos (Argentina) 6-3, 6-3. In contrast, Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies were eliminated in the quarter-finals.

In addition to number six seeded Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the women’s semifinals also include Czech two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, French qualifier Caroline Garcia and 2019 Cincinnati winner Madison Keys from the USA. Keys beat Kazakh Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina 6-2, 6-4.
