Mask affair trial: Andrea Tandler appeals against conviction – Bavaria

The conviction of the mask millionaire and CSU politician’s daughter Andrea Tandler for tax evasion must be reviewed by the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) in Karlsruhe. Tandler and her business partner Darius N., who was also convicted, have filed an appeal against the ruling of the Munich I Regional Court from last week. The court announced this on Friday.

The verdict was preceded by an agreement between the court and those involved in the trial; Tandler and N. had made extensive confessions. In the end, Tandler was sentenced to four years and five months in prison for tax evasion worth millions. The regional court sentenced N. to three years and nine months in prison. Tandler is the daughter of the former CSU general secretary and former Bavarian finance, economics and interior minister Gerold Tandler.

At the beginning of the corona pandemic in 2020, she brokered deals with various federal and state authorities for a Swiss mask supplier. For this she collected commissions of almost 50 million euros – which is legal in itself. Both have now been convicted because they did not tax the commissions correctly and were therefore guilty of income or trade tax evasion. In its judgment, the court ultimately assumed economic damage totaling 7.8 million euros.
