Marriages in Bavaria: Fewer weddings in the second Corona year – Bavaria

In the second year of the pandemic, 2.4 percent fewer people got married in Bavaria than in 2020. Almost 60,000 couples said yes in front of a registrar in the Free State in 2021, according to the State Office for Statistics on Monday in Fürth communicated.

In 2019 – i.e. before the corona pandemic – there were 68,501; In 2020, 61,138 marriages were concluded. The most popular wedding date in Bavaria was August 21, 2021, when 1140 couples celebrated their wedding. There were fewer marriages than in the previous year in six out of seven administrative districts – only Lower Bavaria bucked the trend, 47 more weddings were celebrated here than in 2020.

The registry offices in Middle Franconia registered particularly few new marriages – here the number of newly concluded marriages fell by 5.6 percent compared to 2020. The experts from the State Office also evaluated other data relating to marriage: the men were on average 37.9 years old when they got married, and the women 35.2. Same-sex couples accounted for almost two percent of the total number of marriages.
