“Barbie” became a phenomenon not only at the box office last year. The film by director and author Greta Gerwig also triggered a feminist debate. Initially decried as a pink doll film, viewers quickly realized that “Barbie” was about much more.

The blockbuster was also a success because of its cast. Margot Robbie not only took on the role of the cult doll, but also worked on the project as a producer. Now Robbie apparently wants to build on this hype.

Margot Robbie is producing “The Sims” film

As the online magazine “The Wrap” reports, the next live-action film is already in the works. The computer game “The Sims” serves as a model. The game has been one of the best-selling computer game series for years. The goal is to build houses for your Sims – your characters in the game -, earn money (although there are also ways to cheat and get money that way) and make friends. Players are also able to kill their own characters. “The Sims” sometimes seems extremely macabre.

It is not yet known how Robbie and her production company want to bring the cult characters to life. Whether she will take part herself is apparently still up for debate. However, according to “The Wrap”, she has already managed to get a few famous names involved in the project. Director Kate Herron, who was already responsible for the Disney+ series “Loki,” is already on board, as is author and director Briony Redman.

After the immense success of “Barbie”, another live-action film for Robbie is almost logical. With grosses of $1.45 billion worldwide, “Barbie” became the highest-grossing film in Warner Bros. history in 2023.
