Many theaters are complaining about an enormous loss of audience – others are not. – Culture

Oliver Reese, the artistic director of the Berliner Ensemble, is on vacation, but he knows the occupancy figures for his theater by heart. “In this season we had 84 percent seat occupancy and 146,000 tickets sold, without our numerous guest appearances. That’s about as many spectators as in the 2018 season,” says the director happily. The Berliner Ensemble survived the corona-plagued season without any major slump in the number of viewers – making it a fortunate exception in the stricken theater landscape.
