Many beds closed this summer in hospitals due to lack of caregivers

As everywhere in France, there is a lack of nursing staff in Loire-Atlantique after two years of health crisis. And this shortage (doctors, nurses, caregivers, etc.) does not mix well with the summer period, when the workforce is already reduced due to the holidays. As a result, many beds will have to close in Loire-Atlantique hospitals this summer.

The most critical time will come during the first two weeks of August. During this period, “155 medical beds will be closed (10%), and 200 follow-up care and rehabilitation beds (17%), provides Patricia Salomon, territorial director of the Regional Health Agency. It’s more than usual, with a summer that promises to be more difficult than the previous ones. »

Ancenis emergencies closed at night

The emergency services, five in number on the territory to operate 24 hours a day, are also experiencing strong tensions. So much so that it was decided to close at night the Ancenis emergency room, between July 11 and August 10. No new patient will be admitted after 7 p.m. in this hospital center which usually receives an average of fifteen patients between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. the next day.

“It will be advisable to call center 15 which will direct you to another suitable reception (medical center on duty, other emergency service), or will recommend to present yourself the next day to the emergency room of Ancenis depending on the reason for the call, details the ARS. If patients come to the emergency room, they will be redirected by the reception and orientation nurse. »
