Negotiations between Erik ten Hag and Manchester United are coming to an end. Announcement could take a while.
Negotiations between Manchester United and dream coach Erik ten Hag are on the home stretch. According to information from GOAL and SPOX there are only minor things to be clarified, an agreement could be reached in the near future.
However, an announcement is not expected any time soon, as ten Hag’s current club Ajax Amsterdam do not want to risk any unrest in the ongoing title fight in the Eredivisie. With five games remaining, Ajax are four points ahead of PSV Eindhoven and the two rivals also meet in the cup final next Sunday.
Manchester United: Erik ten Hag the preferred candidate
The 52-year-old ten Hag had long been the favorite to succeed Ralf Rangnick, after the current PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino was also a candidate. Rangnick will move to an advisory role at United after the end of the season.
When asked about a possible change, ten Hag recently refused any comment. “We’re busy with training and games, that’s what we’re focusing on,” he said.
Ten Hag has worked as a coach for the Dutch record champions since 2017, since then he has led the club to the league and cup double in 2019 and 2021. Also in 2019, Ajax reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and were eliminated there by a very narrow margin.
