Man accused of murder claims he acted in self-defense

The story is not yet completely clear and needs to be clarified. On Wednesday October 18, the mutilated body of a 37-year-old man was discovered in Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d’Armor) by police officers who were intervening “for a dispute between several people”. They then found a man lying on the public highway and “with two chest wounds”, according to public prosecutor Nicolas Heitz. The victim died.

The suspect presented himself at the Saint-Brieuc police station after hearing about the facts in the media. This 21-year-old man explained that he was walking his dog around 1 a.m. “when he came across the victim”. In police custody, he explained to investigators that the victim had been “aggressive towards him, insulting him and threatening him with a box cutter”. The suspect claims to have acted in self-defense to ward off the attack of which he claimed to be the victim. He said he “turned the weapon on the victim” by trying to dodge the blows.

To investigators, he assured that the 37-year-old man was “still alive” when he walked away and that he even tried to catch up with him. The accused was indicted for murder and placed in pre-trial detention.
