The road curves gently up the wooded hills to Son Vida. It goes past the green of a golf course, through a barrier. Down in the valley the deep blue sea glitters in the Bay of Palma. Behind the barrier lies the villa suburb of the island’s capital, also called the “Beverly Hills of Mallorca”. Those who can afford it retreat behind high walls. Anyone who lives here wants to leave the world outside.
