In an interview, the singer tells how Malik Harris is passing the time before the ESC final and why he loves his stage.

Two more days, then Malik Harris (24) will represent Germany with his song “Rockstars” at the 66th Eurovision Song Contest in Turin. But the singer has been in Italy for a good week. There he enjoys, among other things, the “great” Italian coffee, visits ESC events, prepares his performance and exchanges ideas with the other participants.

Harris had also been “at all the pre-parties” in the last few weeks, he tells the “WDR” and enthuses: “It’s so harmonious and so uncompetitive among each other, it’s like a school trip with friends.”

music, music, music

On Instagram, Harris regularly shares behind-the-scenes looks at the show, his rehearsals and the interviews surrounding it. This Thursday, for example, he played music with other musicians in the embassy during the day, while a special highlight is scheduled for the evening: the second semi-final. “I’ll also be on stage somehow, I don’t know what exactly is happening there yet, but let’s just let everyone surprise us,” explains Harris in a story.

Of course, the musician also has to prepare for his own appearance at the finale on May 14th. He is particularly proud of it on his stage set, for which his home recording studio was recreated with grand piano and carpet. In an interview with WDR, Harris hopes that he can stand out. His staging is “very, very intimate. It’s incredibly close, incredibly reduced […].”

Don’t be afraid of stage fright

The singer does not have to worry about stage fright in the days before the big performance. “For me, the excitement always comes right before the performance. The last few seconds before going on stage really hits the pit of my stomach. But until then I’m very relaxed,” Harris recently told the news agency spot on news.

After the finale, by the way, Harris has no rest. A day later he flies back to Germany and plays the first concerts of his tour. “After that I’ll sleep for a week”, he already announced on Instagram. Then he really deserved it.

The final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 will take place on May 14th from 9:00 p.m. and will be live on the first, on ONE, on “eurovision.de” and can be seen in the ARD media library.
