The good thing about homemade dog snacks is that you can decide which ingredients to use. This gives you the opportunity to better respond to the individual needs, preferences and tolerances of your loyal four-legged friend. We present you four recipes to try.

So that your dog can eat the homemade treats without hesitation, you should only use ingredients that you know your four-legged friend can tolerate. For example, if he doesn’t like foods containing gluten, flour is taboo – instead, use more digestible alternatives such as potato, corn or rice flour. It is also important for you to know that the freshly prepared dog snacks do not contain any preservatives and therefore have a shortened shelf life. To make the treats last longer, you should let them dry well after preparation and always store them in a dry place.

These ingredients are suitable for treats

Whether vegetables (e.g. potatoes, carrots, spinach) or fruit (such as apples, pears or bananas), eggs or oatmeal, tuna or minced meat: there are no limits to the possible combinations. If you would like to make your own dog treats, you can choose a few basic ingredients and mix them with curd, yogurt, cottage or cream cheese. Important:
Some foods are not only unhealthy for dogs, but even poisonous – such as chocolate (also cocoa) or grapes and raisins. For this reason, these ingredients have no place in the treats. You should also avoid using sugar or spices.

Make your own dog treats

1. Cheese crackers

Does your dog love cheese – and can he tolerate it too? Then these tasty crackers are just the thing for him. You need the following ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 200g flour
  • 50 g crispbread
  • 100g cottage cheese
  • 100g grated cheese
  • Water (as needed)

And this is how you make the cheese crackers yourself:

  1. Mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl until you have a cookie dough.
  2. Form small balls out of the dough or spread the dough into a suitable shape Silicone baking mat for treats.
  3. Bake the dough at 180 degrees for 25 minutes. Then let the cookies dry in the switched off oven.

2. Quark chocolates

Does your dog prefer quark? Then he will definitely enjoy these chocolates. The following ingredients are recommended for preparation:

  • 1 egg
  • 5 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 100 g spelled flour
  • 150 g low-fat quark
  • approx. 6 tbsp buttermilk
  • 200 g oat flakes (fine)

To prepare the quark pralines, proceed as follows:

  1. Take a large bowl and mix all the ingredients together until you get a pliable consistency.
  2. Form small balls (or other motifs) from the finished dough and place them on baking paper or baking tray.
  3. Bake the pralines for 25 minutes at 180 degrees and then let the dough dry out thoroughly.

3. Zucchini trees

These cookies are a real treat for dogs, and not just at Christmas time. All you need are the following ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 zucchini (approx. 230 g)
  • 350 g spelled flour
  • Flour (as required)
  • rosemary
  • Water

And this is how you prepare the dog treats yourself:

  1. First peel the zucchini and then puree it. Preheat the oven, ideally 175 degrees.
  2. Mix the zucchini puree with the remaining ingredients. Add enough water and flour to form a proper cookie dough.
  3. Roll out the dough on a worktop and cut out the treats using the desired cookie shape.
  4. Place the dog treats in the oven for about 25 minutes. Then let the cookies dry in the switched off oven.
  5. If your dog likes (and can tolerate) rosemary, you can sprinkle a little bit over the cookies afterwards.

Tip: Use suitable silicone baking molds (for example a baking mat Christmas trees or gingerbread men)you get it all year round.

Cool snack: ice cream for dogs

In the warm summer months, offer your dog cool refreshment with homemade ice cream. Even though the ingredients may seem unusual to you, your furry friend will still go for it. All you need to prepare it is: two to three tablespoons of grainy cream cheese, two tablespoons Dog liver sausage (please don’t take one from the supermarket, it contains too much fat) and a little rapeseed, sunflower or safflower oil for a smooth mixture.

And this is how the liver sausage ice cream is prepared:

  1. Put the cream cheese and liver sausage in a bowl and mix the ingredients together.
  2. Mix a little oil into the mixture until it is soft and smooth.
  3. Take a suitable one Silicone dog ice cream mold (preferably with a stem) and store the molds in the freezer for several hours.
