Chocolate is undoubtedly one of the most popular sweets. It doesn’t necessarily have to be unhealthy: You can make vegan, sugar-free or fancy chocolate yourself.

Homemade usually tastes best: many people know this statement. But not everything can be easily prepared at home by yourself, such as chocolate – or can you? We’ll tell you how you can make chocolate yourself and not only shape it to your individual taste, but also make it healthier.

Make chocolate yourself: the advantages

We often buy chocolate that only contains traces of cocoa, but a lot of sugar. Milk chocolate, in particular, is not the best choice for a snack: it usually consists of 35 to 50 percent cocoa, the rest is mostly sugar and milk – and brings with it calories. Dark chocolate, i.e. dark and dark chocolate, on the other hand, consists of around 70 to 99 percent cocoa and is therefore less high in calories. If you want to make a healthier, but tasty alternative to conventional chocolate off the shelves, you should ideally use a lot of cocoa and then refine this dark chocolate with ingredients such as nuts, dried berries or spices.

Make chocolate yourself: that’s what you need

To make your own chocolate at home, you need three ingredients for the basic recipe: Cocoa powder and Cocoa butter as well as sweeteners. For the latter, for example (full pipe or Coconut blossom) sugar, Agave syrup or something else. Cocoa (with a high cocoa content) and cocoa butter should be mixed in equal parts. If you take about 100 grams of cocoa powder, you should mix it with 100 grams of cocoa butter and, depending on your taste, with sweetness. As a rule, two tablespoons of sugar or syrup are suitable, or less if you need less. You can change the basic recipe to taste and refine it with additional ingredients. With the basic and individual extra ingredients, it’s time to make the chocolate yourself:

  • First, melt the cocoa butter in a water bath.
  • Then add the solid sweetener. This is particularly helpful with types of sugar so that there is no annoying feeling in the mouth later if it is not properly dissolved. You can also mix in liquid sweetener in the next step.
  • This is followed by the cocoa powder, which you sift into a bowl. If you have other solid and easily soluble ingredients, such as ground spices, add these and then slowly mix the liquid ingredients. Stir well until no more lumps can be seen.
  • You can now either put the liquid chocolate mass on a baking sheet lined with baking paper or in a suitable one Praline, chocolate or other silicone mold give.
  • Now it’s time to refine / decorate: If you want to add ingredients such as corn flakes, nuts, dried fruits, coconut flakes, coarse sea salt, chilli flakes or other to the chocolate, you can do it now and add them to the liquid mass.
  • Let the whole thing harden in the refrigerator for about 20 to 30 minutes. The chocolate is ready and you can either break it by hand or remove it from the mold.

If you want to make it a little easier, you can too finished sets which contain everything you need to make your own chocolate. You can usually use it to make different types of chocolate yourself (white, milk or dark chocolate) and there are already ingredients to refine and decorate them, as well as instructions.

Tip: In order to have some of the chocolate for as long as possible, it should be kept at room temperature between 16 and 18 degrees. In a tin can will keep for several weeks without turning white or dull.
