Maintenance with a guard: car repair shop behind bars – Auto & Mobil

When Kevin (30) sticks his head into the engine compartment, he momentarily forgets where he is. Sure, the tool is counted. When you look through the window, the barbed wire shimmers. And before he goes on his lunch break, he is searched with a metal detector. Nevertheless, he feels free: “When I’m working, I almost don’t notice that I’m in prison,” says Kevin, whom we only call by his first name at his own request. In fact, the car workshop here looks no different than one “outside”: lifting platforms, diagnostic equipment, cars with the hood open. It smells like gasoline and hot rubber.
