It is best known for its right-wing authors: the “Compact” magazine. Now a large operator of train station bookstores is taking it out of its range.

With immediate effect, the magazine “Compact” is no longer available at German train station bookstores. This is what the research network “Correctiv” reports on its website website.

Valora, the operator of the bookstores, told “Correctiv”: “For Valora, freedom of the press is the top priority. But we want to contempt those who despise Germany’s free-democratic basic order – and thus also freedom of the press and freedom of expression aim to overcome them, do not offer a platform”. Therefore, “Compact” will now be removed from the offer “immediately”.

“Compact” authors Mario Müller and Martin Sellner

The background is, among other things, the research by “Correctiv” that became public a few weeks ago about a secret meeting near Potsdam in November 2023. The so-called “remigration” was also discussed.

Two key players who took part in the meeting published in the “Compact” magazine. On the one hand, there is Mario Müller, who is said to have boasted during the meeting that he was partly responsible for a violent attack and that he was running a political search platform.

On the other hand, Martin Sellner is also listed as the author of “Compact”. Sellner confirmed, among other things, that at the meeting in Potsdam he suggested building a right-wing extremist counter-public with the help of influencers. First of all, the “climate of opinion” for the “decade project” of remigration must be changed, said Sellner.

Editor-in-chief and publisher of “Compact” is Jürgen Elsässer, one of the central players in the right-wing scene in Germany. In the past, “Compact” interviewees also included AfD politicians Björn Höcke and Alice Weidel.

According to the company, Valora operates a total of 192 sales points in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg. In addition to books, the offering includes around 11,000 newspapers and magazines.
