8:45 a.m.: Macron raises his voice on the Israeli war “objective”
Emmanuel Macron raised his voice on Saturday with unprecedented vigor with regard to Israeli strategy, questioning, from Dubai, “the objective” of “total destruction of Hamas” and calling for “redoubled efforts to achieve a cease -the lasting fire”.
After two days of talks at COP28 on climate, the president had dinner Saturday evening in Qatar with Sheikh Tamim ben Hamad Al-Thani, the emir of this country at the heart of the negotiations for the truce and the release of the hostages still held by Hamas, including potentially four French people. But his five-hour stopover in Doha shortly followed the departure of Israeli negotiators, with Israel citing “impasse” in the discussions.
