Macron (finally) congratulates Golden Globe-winning director Justine Triet

Awarded two Golden Globes on Sunday for her film Anatomy of a fall, Justine Triet received congratulations from Emmanuel Macron this Monday. The director had already been crowned with the Palme d’Or at Cannes, where she crushed the policies of the head of state.

“Proud to see French cinema rewarded at the Golden Globes,” wrote the President of the Republic on the social network

The 45-year-old director was awarded prizes for best screenplay and best foreign language film for her fourth feature film, which recounts the trial of a writer accused of the murder of her husband by dissecting the collapse of their relationship. The work has been accumulating awards since the last Cannes festival, which propelled it onto the international scene.

The spicy left

Justine Triet stood out with a vitriolic speech against the “dominant, increasingly uninhibited power” of the head of state and his government. The winner of the Palme d’Or had accused the executive of having “shockingly denied” the protest against the pension reform in winter 2023, but also of wanting to “break the cultural exception without which [elle] wouldn’t be here today.

After these comments – which had “stunned” the Minister of Culture Rima Abdul-Malak – Emmanuel Macron did not send a message of congratulations to the director. “Nine months to give birth in pain, congratulations to Justine Triet… Looking forward to discovering the Oscar nominations! », quipped immediately the first secretary of the Socialist Party Olivier Faure.

“Wouldn’t she be the pride of France and French cinema? I would give him a personal legion of honor,” reacted the environmentalist MP Sandrine Rousseau, in reference to the support given by Emmanuel Macron to Gérard Depardieu.
