Macron acclaimed in Paris and in the lead throughout Ile-de-France

A plebiscite in Paris and scores much higher than nationally throughout Ile-de-France. Emmanuel Macron was well ahead of Marine Le Pen in the Paris region in the second round of the presidential election this Sunday. He garnered 2.2 million more votes: 73.02% against 26.98%.

In Paris, Emmanuel Macron won 85.10% of the vote. It is a full house in the 20 arrondissements, 13 of which placed Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the lead in the first round. In the Hauts-de-Seine, it also scores with 80.39%. The departments of Val-de-Marne (74.48%), Seine-Saint-Denis (73.72%) – department with the highest abstention rate in Ile-de-France (38.79%) –, Val-d’Oise (66.15%), Essonne (65.43) and Seine-et-Marne (56.98%), which had all placed the rebellious Jean-Luc Mélenchon as favorite to the outcome of the first round, also rallied the outgoing president with final results.

RN burst in Seine-et-Marne

The working-class neighborhoods notably blocked Marine Le Pen, such as Grigny, the poorest city in France, which gave Emmanuel Macron the first chance (70.76%), as did Saint-Denis (79, 09%), where the candidate had traveled a few days before the poll. In Versailles (69.32%), as in the Parisian districts historically anchored on the right in which Éric Zemmour had broken through in the first round, the outgoing president was a full house.

This tidal wave is however slightly more tenuous than in 2017 because the differences in votes between the two finalists have narrowed from one presidential election to another. Emmanuel Macron thus displays scores down 4 to 7 points compared to 2017 and, logically, Marine Le Pen is progressing in all the Ile-de-France departments. It is in Seine-et-Marne that the victory is less clear since the voters voted 43.02% for the candidate. These results reflect in particular the particular physiognomy of the largest department in the Ile-de-France region, which has a host of small rural municipalities, harvested by the head of the RN.
