Since the Lux Leaks revelations, corporations have had a harder time paying less taxes with the help of Luxembourg. But research now shows: Resourceful advisors and Luxembourg authorities have apparently found a way out.

Jean Asselborn’s promise is almost seven years old. “Luxembourg must not be a place that welcomes companies that do not want to pay taxes,” said the Luxembourg Foreign Minister at the time. “We are no longer available for such trickery.” Shortly before, in November 2014, journalists – including a team from the SZ – had revealed how multinational companies in the Grand Duchy had been able to reduce their taxes to almost zero for years through advantageous tax deals with the local authorities. After the publications, the Lux Leaks, everything should change, Finance Minister Pierre Gramegna assured: “We need more transparency and everyone has to play along.”
