This is perhaps a field on which LREM and Nupes will be able to agree. Aurore Bergé, new president of the Renaissance group (ex-LREM) in the Assembly, announced on Saturday June 25 that the majority would file “from today” “a proposed constitutional law to protect access to abortion”, after the historic decision of the Supreme Court of the United States to revoke this right.

Mathilde Panot, the president of the LFI group, announced on Friday that Nupes would table a bill to this effect on Monday.

Beyond the United States, this decision is “catastrophic for women in the world: you have a woman who dies every 9 minutes because an abortion was performed improperly, in an unsafe way”underlined on France Inter Aurore Berge.

“This also calls for us to take steps in France so that tomorrow we cannot have any reversals that could exist. This is the reason why, today, with my group, we are going to submit a proposal of constitutional law to include respect for abortion in our Constitution”added the elected official of Yvelines.

Pointing to the new RN deputies, “fierce opponents of women’s access to abortion”Aurore Bergé judged that it was not necessary “take no risk in this matter and therefore secure [le droit à l’IVG] by inscribing it in the marble of our Constitution”.
