When Russia invaded Ukraine, many women fled the country with their children. Their men stayed behind. It’s only for a short time, they thought. Now it’s been almost two years – and more and more couples are becoming strangers.
Her new life is reflected on the refrigerator door. Tetiana Koliesnikova has hung a magnetic picture of Neuschwanstein Castle, a bronze-colored Dutch bike with a basket full of tulips, “Amsterdam” written underneath. She has also been to Rome. She says her son is always asked at school on Mondays what he did over the weekend. So she wanted to show him something new. It’s new for them too.
