Lou Reed, Paul Auster and Feeling Misconnected – Society

A long time ago I read Paul Auster’s New York trilogy. The first part, “City of Glass,” begins with someone calling the protagonist Daniel Quinn, mistaking him for detective Paul Auster. Auster’s self deception sounds a bit complicated, but it’s not, otherwise the trilogy wouldn’t have become so popular. Auster later spoke skeptically in an interview about the sometimes occurring equation of the author Auster with the New York trilogy. It reminded him of Lou Reed and his song “Walk on the Wild Side”. Lou Reed, Auster said, eventually got sick of that song because it haunted him.
