The map is the work of the online community of the same name “Urbex Elite”.
“Urbex” is the short form of “Urban Exploration” which translated into German means “city exploration”. For many urban explorers, exploring and documenting deserted places is the main focus of their hobby. Experiencing an authentic historical atmosphere can also be a motivation for exploring the abandoned places.
On Facebook, the community has more than 86,000 members. The community page has around 13,000 followers on Instagram.
The map also contains links to further information and pictures. However, these are only available to the most active members of the community.
An explanatory video from the group says that access to this information has to be earned and that it doesn’t fall into the “wrong hands”.
