Losses with thousands of users: Technical problems on Facebook again

As of: October 8th, 2021 10:12 p.m.

After the extensive failures at the beginning of the week, there are again technical problems with the social network Facebook. A number of users cannot access the group’s services.

Facebook is struggling with technical problems for the second time within a week: Some users have problems accessing apps and services from the group, Facebook admitted on Twitter. They are working on getting the service back to normal as soon as possible.

With platforms like Downdetector, users again reported problems with the entire range of Facebook apps: with the online network itself, the WhatsApp and Messenger chat services and the Instagram photo platform.

On Monday, all Facebook services went offline for around six hours in an unprecedented outage. Facebook explained the malfunction with a configuration error. The interruption in data traffic had “cascading effects on the communication between our data centers and brought our services to a standstill,” said Facebook Vice President Santosh Janardhan. The internal systems were also affected by the failure, which made diagnosis and solving the problem more difficult.

At the moment, the extent of the outages seems to be significantly more limited – the services were not disrupted for everyone.
