At least one person died in the shooting, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves confirmed during a press conference. The latter also specified that between 10 and 15 injured had been recorded, but that their number could change.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas asked residents to leave the area of ​​the shooting. “Law enforcement is addressing what is happening near Union Station. Please stay clear of the area,” he wrote on X, urging those there to “leave peacefully”.

Tens of thousands of people were celebrating the Chiefs, who were marching through the streets of Kansas City to celebrate their victory on Sunday in the Super Bowl, the annual high mass of American football, when the shooting broke out.

Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes said “pray for Kansas City” in a post on X.

TWO PEOPLE ARRESTED

According to Kansas City police, the shooting took place near the Union Station parking lot and two people were arrested. A man wearing a red jogging suit is among those arrested, according to AFP journalists.

Law enforcement officers were deployed in large numbers at the scene, protected by yellow cordons characteristic of crime scenes in the United States.

The traditional parade celebrating the winners of the Super Bowl in the United States was disrupted by gunfire. Gunshots were heard near the Kansas City train station. At least one person died, nine others injured. Three of the injured are in critical condition and five others in serious condition, said a fire department spokesperson.
