OMICRON VARIANT DETECTED IN THIRD OF AMERICAN STATES
The Omicron variant has been identified in at least 16 US states. “We know that we have several dozen cases and we are monitoring them closely,” Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, commented on Sunday. “And every day we hear about more and more probable cases (…) this number is likely to increase.”
As a reminder, California was the first American state to confirm the presence of this new variant. Then Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin followed, according to Reuters.
However, for the time being, it is the Delta variant which continues to represent 99.9% of new cases of Covid-19 across the Atlantic, said Dr Walensky.
