The German Shakespeare Society has launched an award. Anyone who has made a special contribution to Shakespeare’s work and its dissemination should be rewarded.

The Austrian actress and singer Birgit Minichmayr (46) is honored with the Shakespeare Prize of the German Shakespeare Foundation. The German Shakespeare Society announced that the award will be presented on April 23 in Weimar.

The award will be presented for the first time and will go every two years to public figures who have made a special contribution to Shakespeare’s work and its dissemination. No information was initially given on the endowment.

The awards ceremony will take place during Shakespeare Days April 21-23. The theme of this year’s conference is “Shakespeare’s Libraries”. Lecturers from England, Germany and the USA will, among other things, shed light on the influence of early modern book culture on Shakespeare’s works and their reception beyond England’s borders. At the same time, the President of the German Shakespeare Society, Claudia Olk, will hand over her office to a successor to be elected.
