Ligue 1 – 13th day: Rennes slaps Lyon at Roazhon Park (4-1)

The Stade Rennais served us a very high level score in its Roazhon Park theater this Sunday evening. Bruno Génésio’s men literally crushed Olympique Lyonnais, as part of the match of the 13th day of Ligue 1 (4-1). Much better in intensity, in duels and obviously technically, the Rouge et Noir are 2 points behind RC Lens, runner-up to PSG at the end of this football weekend in France. In view of the mines of Jean-Michel Aulas and Juninho seen in the stands, the Lyon locker room may experience intense earthquakes in the hours to come.

And yet, Lopes had delayed the deadline

What if the 84th season in the history of French football elite was one of the most beautiful ever? Many teams offer us high quality play, and Stade Rennais is one of them. The men of Bruno Génésio, native of the city of Lyon and of course former coach of Olympique Lyonnais (2015-2019) started the meeting, as expected, with very high pressing and a multitude of high intensity races.

After several hot situations pushed back into a total defensive disorder where only a heroic Anthony Lopes seemed really concerned by the evening’s stake (8th, 18th, 27th, 40th), the Gones folded on the 4th Rennes corner of the first act. Just before returning to the locker room, Gaëtan Laborde sowed Jason Denayer to open the scoring with a header in front of a beaten and inevitably dumbfounded Lopes (1-0, 45th). A first period during which the players of Olympique Lyonnais did not strike once on goal.

Majer and Truffert, the evening men

Gaëtan Laborde’s 7th goal in Ligue 1 allowed the Bretons to take control at the right time, before a well-deserved break. It was also to never let go. Back from the locker room, it was Hamari Traoré who scored with a superb volley from the right, after a nice long ball from Lovro Majer at the start of the action (2-0, 51st). The Croatian international midfielder, who shone this Sunday evening with his movements between the lines and the dazzling quality of his passes, was also a key man on the next goal.

It is his very fair pass addressed to Flavien Tait near the central circle, which allowed the former SCO Angers midfielder to isolate Adrien Truffert in depth. The shot from the left of the defender, at the end of the race, then deceived Lopes (3-0, 76th). 2nd goal in Ligue 1 for Truffert, and the 3rd even arrived a few minutes later for the defender (entered twenty minutes from the end), on a superb cross from Traoré ideally put into orbit by … Lovro Majer (4-0, 84th).

Truffert therefore scored his 3 goals in his Ligue 1 career at Roazhon Park, after the one scored against Monaco at the start of last season. The penalty scored at the very end of the game by Lucas Paquetá (4-1, 90th + 4) only served as little consolation for the visitors, who passed through their subject. Brilliant in the Europa League where he won all his matches, the Olympique Lyonnais of Peter Bosz seems very fragile in Ligue 1. And that prevents him from really getting involved in the fight for the podium (7th).
