Light installation by Dan Flavin in the artificial structure of the Lenbachhaus. – Munich

Not only, but especially when the light outside is rather sparse, the viewer perceives a light space like that of Dan Flavin in the underground art building Lenbachhaus particularly intense. The strips of fluorescent tubes in the colors green, blue, yellow and red create color projections on the floor, walls and built-in components. The colored light also has an effect on the visitors’ bodies, who move through the room as if in a bath of light. The American artist Dan Flavin, who died in 1996 and was considered to be one of the most important representatives of Minimal Art, provided the art building from 1994 with the installation “Untitled (for Ksenija)” for the opening exhibition. The light installation is now being shown at this location for the eighth time (until January 30th) – and is always a light blessing.
