Goose bumps at the Glastonbury Festival in England: the audience just kept singing the hit “Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi (26) when the singer was struggling with a Tourette attack on stage. It was the Scot’s first appearance after a break of several weeks – and will remain the last for the time being. Because on the same evening, Capaldi announced that he would withdraw from the public again.
The singer confessed to festival-goers that he was “damn scared” ahead of his performance on the Pyramid Stage on June 24. As reported by the Daily Mail, he said: “I took three weeks off because I was away non-stop at the beginning of the year and I wanted a break for my head and mental health, I wanted to come back and do Glastonbury, because it’s so incredible.”
But even during the concert he struggled with Tourette’s symptoms and lost his voice while singing. He apologized to the crowd, who jumped in and continued singing. Despite his difficulties, Capaldi insisted on continuing his performance to the end. The emotional highlight was the closing song “Someone You Loved”, which was also sung by the fans.
Time out until the end of the year?
But her star had sad news in her luggage. Because he announced that he would continue to step down due to his mental problems. “I have a feeling I’ll be taking another little break for the next few weeks. You probably won’t see much of me for the rest of the year.”
Lewis Capaldi has often spoken openly about his Tourette’s disease. It is characterized by a combination of involuntary sounds and movements called tics and can cause speech and voice disorders. He also suffers from panic attacks and imposter syndrome. He has had to cancel several concerts. In the spring he was also tormented by bronchitis.
At the beginning of June he announced a three-week break in an Instagram post. He has hardly been at home since Christmas, the past few months have been “very exhausting both mentally and physically”. “I’m having trouble getting it all under control at the moment.”
Lewis Capaldi’s second studio album, Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, was released in May. It reached number one in the UK charts.
