Lewandowski’s dream is alive – Poland in the playoff final thanks to Gala

The team around the former FC Bayern goalscorer has no trouble with Estonia and is taking an important step towards the European Championship. Another team is also playing in a frenzy.

Poland’s national team has taken a big step towards the European Championships in Germany. Coach Michal Probierz’s team clearly won 5-1 (1-0) against Estonia in the playoff semi-finals and is now in the final next Tuesday. Goalscorer Robert Lewandowski failed to score, but the former FC Bayern goalscorer prepared the goal to make it 3-0.

The Poles took the lead with a goal from Przemyslaw Frankowski (22nd minute). The hosts also benefited from the early yellow-red card against the Estonian midfielder Maksim Paskotsi (27th). Piotr Zielinski (50th), Jakub Piotrowski (70th) and Sebastian Szymanski (77th) scored the other goals for Poland. In addition, Estonia’s captain Karol Mets, who is under contract with second division leaders FC St. Pauli, scored an own goal (74th). Martin Vetkal scored the guests’ consolation goal (78′).

Thanks to Budu Zivzivadze from Karlsruher SC, Georgia is just one win away from its first participation in a European Football Championship. The striker of the second division team scored a brace (40th/63rd) in the 2-0 (1-0) win in the play-off semi-final against outsiders Luxembourg. For Luxembourg, the dream of the European Championship premiere ended.

Greece (5-0 against Kazakhstan), Iceland (4-1 against Israel), Wales (4-1 against Finland) and Ukraine (2-1 against Bosnia-Herzegovina) also prevailed.

On Tuesday there will be the finals of Wales against Poland, Ukraine against Iceland and Georgia against Greece. The winners of these three encounters will win the last tickets to the European Championship.
