Level crossing in the Fasanerie: Trains are only allowed to drive on sight – Munich

Because the barrier is defective, a level crossing is blocked off manually. After another train almost collided with a car there, drivers and cyclists now have to be prepared for longer waiting times.

At a currently unbarred level crossing in the Fasanerie, engine drivers have been allowed to “drive on sight” since Thursday. Trains are only allowed to pass there at a maximum of 40 kilometers per hour instead of the previous 140. The reason for the decision by the Federal Police, Federal Railway Authority and DB Netz AG was the near-accident on Tuesday, when a regional train just avoided a collision with a car. It was the second incident this year.

Because the barrier is defective after an accident, the level crossing is manually blocked off with a warning tape when a train approaches. After the gatekeeper apparently forgot another train, the authorities took another precautionary measure. Until the barrier is repaired in summer, motorists and cyclists will have to be prepared for longer waiting times at the crossing because of the slower trains.
