Letter marathon from Amnesty International: What a Munich school writes to prisoners for Christmas – Munich

In the run-up to Christmas, children across Germany send mail to imprisoned people to encourage them. But what do you write to someone who has been on death row for decades? A visit to a class in Hasenbergl.

Jan is touched by the fact that this man has been sitting on death row in the USA for 30 years, waiting to be executed. “He has a mental disability and the trial wasn’t fair. It’s sad that he’s sitting in prison. I’m sorry sorry for him,” says the 14-year-old. His classmate Idmon speaks up and says: “Even though a witness admitted he lied, Rocky Myers is still in prison!”
