Less affected, Brittany puts in place its first restrictions

She is relatively spared, for now. In Brittany, we cannot yet speak of a fuel shortage. Unlike other French regions, the peninsula has been able to refuel its service stations in recent weeks, limiting the impact for motorists. But for how long ? Since Tuesday, the Donges refinery (Loire-Atlantique) has also been blocked. Faced with this situation, the prefects of the four Breton departments have put in place their first restrictions pending the lifting of the blockages initiated by employees of the TotalEnergies and Esso-ExxonMobil refineries. This Wednesday morning, the strike at the Port-Jérôme refinery (Seine-Maritime) was unanimously renewed, despite the threat brandished the day before by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne to requisition the oil group’s depots.

As of Wednesday, October 12, it is forbidden to stock up on fuel in jerrycans and drums. “It is not a situation of shortage but of distribution difficulties”, specifies the prefect of Finistère. Only professionals able to justify their activity to the petrol station will be able to obtain supplies.

The prefects call on the population “to be civic-minded and everyone’s responsibility to ensure that everyone’s needs are met”. A call that has not been heard everywhere. Faced with the shortage, clashes broke out here and there between motorists angry at having to wait hours to refuel.
