Several dead in the collapse of the Ballermann restaurant in Mallorca

At least four people were killed when a restaurant collapsed on Playa de Palma in Mallorca. There were also around 30 injured, the emergency services on the Spanish holiday island said.
On Thursday evening at around 8 p.m. a building collapsed on Playa de Palma in Mallorca. According to the “Mallorca Zeitung” (MZ), it was the Medusa Beach Club. It is still unclear what exactly caused the accident. Four deaths have now been officially confirmed, writes the “MZ”. At least 30 people were also injured.
The police have cordoned off a large area of the site and emergency teams have been mobilized. The fire service suspects that people are buried under the rubble and several emergency vehicles with heavy equipment are on site for possible rescue, it is said.
According to witness statements, the upper floor of the two-story building initially collapsed, and then parts of the building gradually collapsed floor by floor. Neighbors then called the police. According to other eyewitnesses, the rescue workers tried to treat a 24-year-old who was at the scene of the accident. However, there was nothing more they could do for him.
The emergency services are working hard to rescue anyone who may have been buried and to treat the injured. Other buildings may also have been damaged. Evacuation is possible.
