Leon Löwentraut became known as a very young artist. Now the 25-year-old is suing a Düsseldorf gallery. He demands the payment of 530,000 euros and the return of paintings. On August 25, the parties to the civil case will meet.

The painter Leon Löwentraut has sued a Düsseldorf gallery. This was announced by the Düsseldorf district court. According to the court, the gallery and the artist, who is only 25 years old, have been linked since 2017 through several long-term gallery and cooperation agreements. According to the court, they are arguing about payments as part of the execution of the contracts and about the effectiveness and continued existence of individual contracts. A hearing is scheduled for August 25 in the civil case.

Löwentraut paints large-format, expressive pictures and has already had numerous exhibitions at home and abroad, most recently in Munich, Wiesbaden and Ulm. Three years ago, he gave the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament a picture that he had created especially for the parliament.

Leon Löwentraut also demands the publication of individual works

According to the district court, he is demanding payment of more than 530,000 euros from the defendant in the civil proceedings as part of the settlement of the gallery contracts, including from the sale of his paintings. He also demands the surrender of individual paintings and the determination of the effective termination of the contracts. The gallery, in turn, is asserting claims for damages against the plaintiff for non-performance of the contracts in the millions and has filed a counterclaim.
