Lego Avengers: Five superhero sets for adults

Super Heroes
Lego Avengers: The most iconic sets from the Marvel universe

For more than two years, “The Daily Bugle” was considered the tallest and largest Lego set from the Lego Avengers cosmos. In November 2023, the Avengers Tower replaced the iconic editorial building at the top.

Superheroes and nasty villains spectacularly smash each other’s heads in the fictional Marvel universe. Lego has been delivering sets for Avengers fans young and old for several years. Five of the most iconic kits related to Spider-Man, Loki, Captain America & Co.

Nothing less than that Loki is after world domination. In the science fiction saga “Marvel’s The Avengers”, the cunning half-brother of the thunder god Thor captures the Tesseract, a four-dimensional hypercube. The alien Chitauri are supposed to help the villain to subjugate humanity on Earth. Fantastic material from which not only blockbusters with many millions of cinema viewers are born.

Because of course Loki doesn’t get away with it that easily. And how could it be otherwise: Superheroes are a must. And not just two or three, but everyone there is. Even Captain America is awakened from his decades-long slumber. Tony Stark aka Iron Man is also allowed to take part in the epic Battle of New York, although Nick Fury, head of the secret government agency SHIELD, doesn’t take kindly to the egocentric man.

Hollywood’s elite around Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johannson, Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans helped the cinematic start of the Marvel series to fame and honor. In the same year, the Danish toy manufacturer Lego accompanied the film by Joss Whedon (“Buffy”, “The Office”) with the first play sets. Buildable figures of Iron Man, Captain America and Hulk moved into children’s rooms to save the world. Since then, more than 150 sets from the Lego Marvel Super Heroes series have been released. A sizeable portion for adult fans of the Infinity Saga. Some of them are now considered collector’s items.

5 legendary Lego Avengers sets for adults

1/Avengers Tower

With more than 5,000 individual pieces, the new version of the Avengers Tower is the largest set from the Marvel universe that Lego has released to date.

One of the most spectacular is undoubtedly the one with set number 76269. At the beginning of November 2023, Lego presented the 90 centimeter high replica of the superheroes’ control center. The designers used more than 5,200 individual parts for what is by far the largest Marvel set in Lego history. In the list of the tallest Lego sets, the futuristic skyscraper ranks just ahead of the Daily Bugle (also known from the Marvel universe) in sixth place. Speaking of space, Avengers Tower has plenty of it. So none of the 31 (!!) minifigures have to stay outside, although Hulk’s powerful biceps are so big that the facade or the roof might be the more comfortable places for him. Otherwise, the most important scenes from the Infinity Saga can be reenacted on the four floors, the Quinjet landing site and around the building. So four Chitauri, supported by a Leviathan and led by Loki, can take on the superheroes.

The LEGO Avengers Tower has been here since November 24th. available.

2 / Sanctum Sanctorum

Significantly fewer parts and minifigures including Dr. Strange, Wong and Iron Man (but similar building and playing fun) are in the miniature version of the Sanctum Sanctorum, which was officially presented in summer 2022. The interior details and nine minifigures are based on scenes from the films “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”. The fictional temple was built by the legendary magician Agamotto. In the films, the three-story Victorian brownstone is located in Greenvich Village in New York’s Manhattan district. Like the Avengers Tower, the Lego Sanctum Sanctorum is a display-only model for adult Marvel fans. Since there are hardly any pitfalls in the instructions, assembly shouldn’t be a problem even for smaller, experienced Lego fans.

In addition to the minifigures, the upper floor of the modular building, the so-called meditation chamber, is particularly exciting. Because in the Museum of Mystical Collections, Dr. Stephen Strange displays his magical artifacts, i.e. “The Holy of Holies”. Above all, the Eye of Agamotto. Various doors and passages to other dimensions make the building a truly mystical place. Doctor Strange’s residence consists of 2708 pieces. For the RRP of just under 250 euros, Avengers fans get eight other, some exclusive, minifigures in addition to the host.

3 / Captain America’s shield

The red, white and blue shield with the star in the center is perhaps the best-known symbol of the superhero clique. The legendary item stands like no other for the eternal battle between good and evil. The Lego replica has an impressive diameter of 47 centimeters. The Avengers cult object is neither suitable for playing nor fighting, but the shield is a real eye-catcher on any shelf. However, the bearer of the shield is more than undersized, as Captain America is included in this set as a minifigure, which stands on a black base with Thor’s hammer and plaque. 3128 parts, several more than the Sanctum Sanctorum, have to be installed before the shield can have a decorative place. With a bit of luck you can get it for around 150 euros (as of November 2023). The RRP is 60 euros more.

4/Venom

Fans don’t have to dig quite as deep into their pockets for this popular set. At least not yet. Because the mask of the supervillain Venom belongs to the so-called EOLs (End of Life). These are kits that Lego will soon no longer be producing. Spiderman fans in particular are likely to click their tongues when building this set. Even if Venom plays the cruel and merciless opponent of Peter Parker aka Spiderman in Spider-Man 3. Like Parker, Eddie Brock photographed for the Daily Bugle before he is consumed by a black substance and becomes an alien symbiote in a key scene in the film. The dagger-like teeth and long twisted tongue are Venom’s fearsome trademarks. Once the 565 parts are assembled, the replica is almost 20 centimeters high. A nice highlight: the lower jaw is movable and can be folded out along with the tongue. The collector’s item for the showcase is completed by an exclusive printed plaque, which is attached to the base like the Lego Star Wars Helmet Collection.

5 / The Daily Bugle

The conclusion of our five legendary Lego sets from the Marvel/Avengers universe is the LEGO Daily Bugle. The replica of the publishing house, run with a hard hand by editor-in-chief Jonah Jameson, is one of the most popular modular buildings in the Lego cosmos. The skyscraper with the striking glass facades is built from almost 3,800 parts. This made “The Daily Bugle” not only the highest, but also the most comprehensive set from the Marvel Universe until November 2023. 25 minifigures, including some that are only included in this set, bring the 82 centimeter high office building to life. There’s also a taxi and Spidey’s famous Spider Buggy, which “sticks” to the exterior of the Daily Bugle. One of the highlights is the shattering glass front on the second floor. Green Goblin’s glider breaks through the window near Peter Parker’s workplace with a great noise, sparks and lots of shards. Superheroes and supervillains join hands in the Daily Bugle. The set is also easy to master for smaller, experienced builders. Its depth also makes it very easy to play.
