Legendary names! Toni Kroos names his candidates for a Real Madrid five-man team
Putting together a team of five from real legends – it couldn’t be more difficult. Toni Kroos tried it anyway.
Ex-national player Toni Kroos has formed a so-called “five-a-side team” in a YouTube video of his Real Madrid club. He was only allowed to select players who have already completed their careers.
Initially, Kroos decided on a goalkeeper and chose Iker Casillas for this. According to the German, it was an “honor” to play for the royal team together with the 2010 world champion.
Real Madrid: Kroos relies primarily on world champions – but also on a compatriot
For defense, too, Kroos relied on a world champion who won the World Cup in 2002: left-back Robert Carlos. The 31-year-old described the Brazilian as a “legendary defender”, which he remembered mainly because of his goal hazard and world-famous left foot.
In midfield, Kroos relied on a compatriot whose real career has probably been forgotten nowadays: Uli Stielike. He has “respect for him for having played so many games for Real Madrid,” emphasized the midfielder, who has now surpassed Stielike’s 281 competitive game for Los Blancos (currently 332 appearances).
Zidane in Kroos’ Real Team, Raul instead of Ronaldo
Kroos completed the midfield with Zinedine Zidane and took a third world champion on board. Zidane was an “idol” as a player and he also remembers the Frenchman as a “great coach”. Under coach Zidane Kroos won the Champions League three times in a row with Real Madrid.
Even in the storm, Kroos was spoiled for choice and finally decided on one of the greatest club legends: Raul Gonzalez. Today’s coach of the second team of the Madrilenians played 741 players for the royal team and was, according to the German, a “perfect mentality player”.
Had he been allowed to select active players, it seems reasonable to assume that the 31-year-old would have chosen his former neighbor and Real Madrid record goal scorer Cristiano Ronaldo. Kroos himself has now been playing for Real for over seven years and has been considered seed in defensive midfield ever since.
